Resume paper

This may sound stupid, but someone told me that I should do something different with my resume to make it stand out - like brightly colored paper. Or perfumed paper.

We don't agree. Yes, that will make your resume "stand out," but not in the way you want it to!

First, most resumes will be transmitted electronically - so the type of paper is often a moot point.

Second, gimmicky resumes look like acts of desperation. To really "stand out," students should devote their college years to obtaining those skills and experiences employers seek. Devote years to getting good grades, engaging in student and community activities, learning a foreign language and/or developing excellent computer skills, completing one or more internships, etc.

Do all that - and you won't have to resort to perfumed paper!
