Industries attending USD Career Expo

I’m disappointed that there weren't any advertising agencies at last Spring’s Career Expo. Can’t you get ad agencies to recruit on campus?

Your concern speaks to the larger issue of how specific companies and entire industries go about recruiting students for internships and full-time positions. Career Services actively invites hundreds of organizations to attend our Internship Fair and Career Expo, post positions on ToreroLink, and conduct information sessions on campus. Ultimately, however, each organization will decide which recruitment practices best suit their needs. In addition to USD Fairs, ToreroLink and information sessions, many organizations post positions on their website or on general or industry-specific job sites. Some hire executive recruiters or staffing firms to identify qualified candidates. Some post jobs on professional association job pages. Some review unsolicited applications that arrive from job hunters. Some rely on current employees to recommend qualified applicants. Others rely on professional “word of mouth” (networking). Some search for candidates on online job sites and LinkedIn. Some primarily hire from their interns.

As you can see, the list of potential recruiting practices is long and varied. This is why Career Services stresses the importance of understanding the hiring practices of the organizations and companies in which you are interested, and to develop an appropriate job hunting strategy. We can help.
