Should I wear a business suit to Career Expo?

Okay, in a previous blog you say to wear a business suit to a job interview. But what about the Career Expo that’s scheduled for Thursday? It’s going to be a pain to dress up because I have classes before and after the event that day.

Thanks for the question.

Everything we said in that blog entry about dressing in a business suit for an interview applies to the Career Expo scheduled for March 26 at the UC Forum from 11:30 – 2:00. Employers attend job fairs because they want to observe students in person – how they carry themselves, how they respond to questions, what questions they ask, and yes – how they dress. Have you heard the saying: “You only have one opportunity to make a first impression?”. Trust us – you will be at a big advantage if you attend the Career Expo dressed in business attire. (And besides, do you really want to be the one dressed in jeans and a t-shirt when others are dressed in a suit?)

Here’s a site with photos of appropriate business suits: www.symsdress.com/occupationfirst.htm

And we will be conducting a presentation on “Working a Job Fair” on Tuesday, March 24 at 12:15in Maher 205.

Good luck at Career Expo.
