Hi,
I was recently looking at a company's website and saw that in order to apply for a position they required not only a resume and a cover letter, but also a writing sample. I was wondering if you could give me an idea of what an appropriate writing sample could be.
Thanks.

Working for a family business
This may be a stupid question – but does it look bad if I worked for my family business? I’m afraid it seems like the only job I could get was from my parents!

What to wear to a job interview
Please settle a disagreement between my girlfriend and me. She says I should always dress in “formal interview attire” for a job interview. I say it depends. If I know that everyone in a certain organization dresses in business casual, or even in jeans, I think dressing in a business suit makes me look like I don’t understand “the corporate culture.” Plus I don’t want to be better dressed than the interviewer. I’ve seen job fair recruiters wearing polo shirts. Who’s right?

I'm not from San Diego so how do I network in San Diego?
I keep hearing that networking is the best way to get a job, but I’m not from San Diego and don’t really know anybody to contact locally. So how am I supposed to network?

Job hunting from out of state
I moved home several months ago after graduating hoping to find a job out of state, particularly where the publishing business is prevalent. However, although I have enough, if not more, relevant professional and education experience I've had a tough time catching a break-- most likely because of the economic situation and my out of state address. What can I do to stand out in this competitive industry and land a job out of state?

Recruiters not collecting resumes at Job Fairs
I’ve been to a few job fairs recently and some of the companies wouldn’t even take my resume. They told me to apply online. So why did I bother to buy a suit, print up resumes, and go to the Job Fair if they just want me to apply online?
Should I try to get a job through a temp agency?
Thanks for explaining about headhunters. But what about temp agencies? I just graduated and I was thinking about contacting some of them. Would I be wasting my time?
